As part of the development of a new Clinical Services Building, Middlemore Hospital aimed to ensure that products specified generated energy and maintenance cost savings, without compromising performance.
The new building was originally specified with a range of standard fluorescent luminaires from Thorn NZ by Beca.
However the client having run a trial, and undertaken a series of tests with our products, was keen to investigate the Ecofluro® LED solution.
Beca were initially sceptical, so BLS ® submitted a range of reports which included full NATA accredited photometric reports and IES files for Ecofluro® in a range of fittings.
Upon review Beca found no reason to oppose the suggested upgrade and BLS ® worked with Thorn Lighting to specify the required changes to wiring.
Standard products were manufactured to match requirements of the Ecofluro® range including the removal of ballasts and starters with electrical connection to one end only.
By undertaking this work at the factory a great deal of waste and additional costs were avoided.
The project received EECA funding and was a great success.
Ecofluro® outperformed the original fluorescent specification by a nominal margin and removed future maintenance issues with significant energy savings.
The process involved:
- A workshop to engage key stakeholders.
- Live product trials within the new development.
- Supported Beca with due diligence report.
- Supported EECA grant application.
- Post-installation monitoring and review.
